It is a bit of a cliché to say that populism is on the rise across the Western world.  In this post, I want to look briefly at the history of right-wing populism in Britain.  The Brexit project is heavily indebted to this style of politics, and looking at its roots may help to clarify what is at stake in Britain's decision to leave the European Union.

All Out War, Tim Shipman

This is the definitive account of the Brexit referendum campaign and the events surrounding it.  It is a remarkable piece of journalism - Shipman, who is the political editor of the Sunday Times, seems to have spoken to everyone short of the Queen.  The book is highly detailed, and will no doubt be pored over for years to come by historians and political consultants.
